Charis Community Housing is a Christian community development ministry founded by Bob Lupton in 1980. Our strategy stems from a belief that many of the problems associated with economic poverty originated after the economically poor were isolated geographically. Therefore, we seek to break this isolation and create wholesome, viable, sustainable mixed-income communities.
While some organizations work city-wide, Charis operates as a neighborhood-based ministry. We recognize that the history, people, assets and culture of each community is unique. Our desire is to strengthen and honor what God created and is already doing in each neighborhood. Therefore, we work closely with local residents to create a master redevelopment plan that fits their unique community. The master plan establishes our partnership and details how our work will fit into the larger goal of transforming the neighborhood.
